7 Scary-Good Cocktails for Halloween

It’s only fitting that we’re serving up a list of boozy drinks for one of the most fun days of the year – hell, it’s just worth toasting that it’s on a Saturday! Enjoy Halloween while you can, because once this holiday’s over, the Christmas push arrives. Heaven help us all!

The Devil’s Beso

By DeLeon Tequila

1½ oz. DeLeon™ Platinum Tequila
¾ oz. lemon juice
¾ oz. simple syrup
Red wine
Garnish: orange wedge

Dry-shake ingredients in a martini glass. Add ice, shake. Strain into rocks glass over ice. Float red wine on top.

Black Dove

By Milagro Tequila

2 parts Milagro Silver
1 part fresh Ruby Red grapefruit
¾ parts agave nectar
1 part activated charcoal*
3 parts club soda (to top)

In a shaker with ice, combine the Milagro, grapefruit and agave nectar. Break the capsule and pour the charcoal into the mixture. Shake well, strain and pour over into a Collins glass over fresh ice. Garnish with fresh grapefruit peel, charcoal and kosher salt rim.

*Activated charcoal is an over-the-counter capsule found in most vitamin stores used to aid digestion. It can also be used to turn cocktails black.

Spooky Smoked Maple Cakes

1 part Laphroaig® 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
½ part Jim Beam Maple
½ part DeKuyper® Buttershots
2 parts fresh pressed apple juice
Garnish: orange peel

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a flamed orange peel.

The L&L

By DRY

4½ oz. Lavender DRY
1½ oz. vodka
¼ oz. St-Germain
Ice
Garnish: lemon peel

Shake vodka, ice and St-Germain in a cocktail shaker. Pour into a large martini glass. Top with Lavender DRY and garnish with a slice of lemon peel.

Scarves and Yoga Pants

1½ oz. Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey
1 oz. Pumpkin Spiced Simple Syrup (recipe below)
½ oz. orange juice
½ oz. lemon juice
¼ oz. heavy cream
¾ oz. egg whites
2 dashes herbal bitters
Garnish: Luxardo cherry

Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Dry-shake vigorously then add ice to shaker; shake for 10 to 12 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass and add ice; garnish with Luxardo cherry.

Pumpkin Spiced Simple Syrup

1½ cup water
¾ cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
¼ tsp. fresh grated ginger (use a microplane)
½ tsp. ground cloves
½ tsp. ground nutmeg
¼ cup pumpkin puree
1½ tablespoons vanilla extract

Add water and both sugars to saucepan and simmer for 4 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Turn heat down to low and whisk in ginger, cloves, nutmeg and pumpkin puree. Simmer for 10 minutes but do not bring to boil. Remove from heat and strain through cheesecloth and mesh strainer. Allow syrup to cool to room temperature then mix in vanilla extract.

Van Goghst Punch (serves 12)

1 bottle Van Gogh Rich Dark Chocolate Vodka
12 oz. orange juice
12 oz. pomegranate juice
12 oz. club soda
Garnish: orange wheels

Pour ingredients into large punch bowl or pitcher filled with ice and stir to chill and dilute. Ladle or pour out into small punch glasses. Garnish with several sliced orange wheels.

Snickertini crop

Snickertini

By Van Gogh Vodka

1½ oz. Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka
½ oz. Irish cream liqueur
½ oz. chocolate liqueur
½ oz. Amaretto
Splash of cream

Drizzle a thin line of both caramel and chocolate sauce on the inside of a rocks glass and place in refrigerator to chill. Combine all ingredients into a shaker and shake over ice. Pour entire contents of shaker into glass.
